So my kids were wanting pizza for lunch and I only had one thing of crust in the fridge, so this was my attempt at stretching the dough 🙂

Braided Calzone(Pizza)

  • 1 ball pizza dough of your choice
  • 1cup Mozzarella Cheese -shredded
  • pepperoni -sliced
  • any other topping you like on your pizza
  • 2tsp. + 1tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2tsp. garlic powder
  • 2tsp. onion powder
  • nonstick olive oil cookie spray
  • 2Tbsp + 2Tbsp. fresh grated Parmesan cheese
  • spaghetti sauce of your choice (for dipping)

Preheat oven to 375F

Spray your pizza stone or sheet pan (I LOVE my Pampered Chef Pizza pan) with nonstick spray

spray your hands with the spray and then spread out your dough to cover your pan. (I have made my own dough, used fresh dough from my favorite pizza shop, used frozen dough and refrigerated Pillsbury pizza dough) so i mean it when I say your choice 🙂 You need the dough to be in a rectangle though…

sprinkle your dough with the Italian seasoning, onion powder and garlic powder (I made this quickly for my kids for lunch, I would highly recommend using fresh pressed or chopped garlic instead if you have time)

spread the Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese in the middle section of the dough about 3-4inches wide

then top the cheese with the pepperoni

Now here comes the tricky part, no its really easy , just don’t over think it 🙂

Take a pair of kitchen scissors or a sharp knife and cut horizontal lines all along each side of the cheese and pepperoni. Making each cut about an inch apart . Try and keep an even number of strips on each side 🙂

then starting from the bottom on the right side take strip number one and cross it over the cheese and pepperoni till it touches dough, do the same on the bottom left strip. Slowly repeat this until you reach the top.

Gently fold up the ends to slightly seal , to avoid major spilling while baking

spray the top with nonstick cooking spray

top with remaining Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning

Bake for 20-25minutes until top gets golden brown

slice and dip into your favorite spaghetti sauce
